What is St. Andrew's Abbeyfield?
A home within a home, providing security and companionship for seniors
St Andrew’s Abbeyfield is an independent seniors’ home with a difference. Residents enjoy companionship when they want it, privacy when they need it, security and independence. It is an affordable small scale housing option with a friendly, supportive homey atmosphere. The number of residents is kept small to allow the home-like atmosphere to flourish. The house is located within walking distance of the down town area, the library and a seniors’ centre. Residents remain engaged in their community activities while enjoying life in their Abbeyfield home. Abbeyfield does not provide nursing care.
Abbeyfield strives for a caring respectful, home-like atmosphere that enhances the quality of life for independent seniors. Life is better among friends.
Our Guiding Principles
St. Andrew’s Abbeyfield is a voluntary effort by people of goodwill to assist the elderly to achieve a fulfilling way of life.
The overriding aim of St. Andrew’s Abbeyfield is to provide affordable accommodation and companionship for lonely older people within their local community. This is achieved by offering supportive care houses in which nine residents live like a large “family”, with a live-in house manager facilitating daily routines and meals.
St. Andrew’s Abbeyfield is a non-profit, registered charity. House ownership and support are undertaken by an independent board of community volunteers. St. Andrew’s Abbeyfield is non-denominational and does not discriminate regarding race, gender or ethnic background.
